Character and challenges they faced

The character I chose was Tom Popper played by Jim Carey in the Movie,' Mr.Popper's Penquins'. Tom, a businessman and workaholic living in New York City, shared custody of his two children with his wife Amanda. . Growing up, Tom was mainly raised by his mother while his father, traveled the world as an archaeologist exploring the world's wonders and prehistoric history. Tom's father died on a trip to Antarctica and as a goodbye gift, he left his son six penguins all of which have vastly different personalities. Tom inherited his father's work ethic and had a difficult time being there for his children and wife. Tom has a difficult time forming close relationships with others and evidently, this is what caused the separation between him and his wife. 

Normalcy

To an extent, Tom's personality, behavior, and lifestyle are normal changes that are associated with middle adulthood. He worked hard to provide for his family, wanted to be successful in his field, and worked hard to not become the image of his father while subconsciously becoming the image of his father. I do believe that Tom didn't realize how he was pushing his wife and kids away. "The normative experience of parents as they move through each stage of parenting is that the challenges bring both intensive new stresses and delightful new pleasures" (Broderick and Blewitt, 2019, p.535).
