English

The Scenario Sometime after the events described in "The Great Gatsby" one of the major characters in the novel puts himself forward as a candidate for election to the post of Governor of the State (New York) in an upcoming election. Everyone has read the account of events in the novel, told entirely from Nick Caraway's perspective. Everyone wants to know: this candidate's perspectives and his role in the events that unfolded; whether he has the right qualities for the job; and what he plans to do about important social and cultural concerns in the State.

Instruction: present a dramatic script and a commentary.

Characters to choose from are:

Tom

Daisy

Jordan

Study the character and select specific identifying traits

1. The Script - compile a dramatic script of a twenty-minutes Prime Time Television Interview between two (2) hard - hitting journalists and this candidate. Note that, the candidate may be male or female but, cannot be Nick Caraway.

 2. The Commentary- compile a commentary and analysis on the artistic choices your group made in this project and how those choices demonstrate your interpretation of "The Great Gatsby". This commentary must include close reference to the prescribed text and at a minimum, should explain:

(a) the reasons and justification for selecting the character chosen by your group and how that character's perspective may (or may not) differ from that of the novel's narrator;

(b) what character traits, perspectives, structural elements, themes and social issues you explored in your script; and (c) the effectiveness of your various artistic choices in exploring those items (in c above).
