An example of what a 5-sentence paragraph should looks like:

An organization called the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) was created to encourage farmers to slow

down production due to the overproduction that was driving down prices. As the author points out, “this

oriented toward the largest-scale capitalist growers and the AAA excluded farm tenants and

sharecroppers” who were gradually transformed into wage labor (46). Cash payments and price

stabilization programs to growers functioned as an economic bailout, greatly aiding in the restoration of

profits, while farmworkers were denied the right to collective bargain. This was unfair for the farmers

because they should have the same right to collectively bargain as other people, but the government

didn’t let them because they were not interested in preserving the small farming population.

This assignment will consist of your thoughts, reflections, and analyses of the reading assignments given in class

Each reading assignments will consist of excerpts from different texts. An excerpt is a part, chapter, or section of a book, journal, or magazine article.

For each excerpt in an assignment, you will write a response that demonstrates:

o Acomplete read and summary of the content

o Identification and understanding of the main ideas

© Questioning that reflects what is not clear or understood

o Analysis of the reading through making sense of its meaning or significance on your own terms

© Critical thinking towards the content—deciding what you think or feel and explaining it

© Reaching your own conclusions about the content

© Building knowledge and analytical techniques

For each reading analysis assignment, develop and write an analysis for each excerpt in the form of a complete paragraph. For example, a reading assignment with three excerpts will be three paragraphs. Acomplete paragraph should be at least 5 complete sentences (not “lines”). A complete sentence is a fully-developed and clearly-expressed idea.
