My social problem is juvenile delinquency.

Throughout history, our nation has faced and still faces different social problems; the educational sector is not an exception. Social issues such as racial discrimination, unequal opportunities for learners, economic issues, gender inequality, and other forms of social injustices are rampant within educational institutions. Racial discrimination is an issue deeply rooted in both our society and education (Davis, J. L., 2016). Regrettably, students can segregate their peers based on their race and color of the skin. Learners don't get equal opportunities due to the inequitable distribution of resources. Research finds systematic inequalities and significant disparities in revenue distribution for schools (Verstegen, D. A., 2015). For instance, in Nevada, research shows schools based in urban areas get more funding than isolated local district schools (Verstegen, D. A., 2015). Explain how social problems within social institutions (on micro and macro levels) have perpetuated or affected the social problem you selected (200-250 words). Human trafficking, a now serious social issue considered a global problem, has been a subject of heated discussion in recent times, especially on the root cause and how we can overcome it. As regarded by many as some form of modern-day slavery, human trafficking, perpetuated by different social problems, is an issue in the education sector. Students are running away from the severe social problems they are facing. Human traffickers, through manipulation, fraud, deception, or coercion, recruit them, promising a better life but with the intent of exploiting them for financial gains. Issues like bullying in school could force students to quit education as they seek to escape violence. Being ridiculed and tormented daily by bullies, for instance, because of their race, color of skin, or body size, is what possibly renders them vulnerable to traffickers who take advantage of their troubled situation to manipulate them. Economic issues among students also perpetuate human trafficking. A student who comes from a poor background is vulnerable to human trafficking. It doesn't take long for them to notice the financial constraints their family experiences. As a result, they may end dropping out of school as they look to assist their parents financially, especially if they have younger siblings. In the search for favorable opportunities, traffickers lie and exploit them. Unequal opportunities for learners resulting from inequitable revenue distribution also sustain human trafficking. Children from poor backgrounds are most likely to attend isolated and less funded public schools, which increases their vulnerability. Use the GCU library and identify an actual solution to the social problems within education. Summarize the solution you identified and compare it to historical solutions proposed in the past(150-200 words). DIXON Social problems much evident, and we cannot disregard their severely damaging effects on the young generation. With that being said, some things need to be done, changes to be made, and solutions found to streamline life for learners in the educational institutions. An actual solution to these problems would be educators joining hands to eradicate racism, inequality, and bullying by incorporating teachings regarding the same in their lessons. Compared to other professionals we have in society, educators are better positioned to tremendously facilitate the much-needed change in our education system (Davis, J. L., 2016). They are the ones with whom students spend most of their time with and with a profound understanding of each student's cultural background, educators can engage them on how to treat each other. Teachers can lead social justice movements by making classrooms a safe place where students feel respected and valued (Davis, J. L., 2016). This solution would be better than some of the historical solutions. Solutions that separated students based on their race. Solutions that saw the minority groups attend the lowest funded schools depriving them of better education and consequently better employment opportunities. This is why I think educators taking the responsibility of shaping the young generation would go a long way in avoiding having to go down the aforementioned road in the future. However, the problem comes from the economic crisis, weakening of institutions, and political instability (Sullivan, 2016). Generally weakening institutions encompass public education, state, system, and public assistance like families. In most instances, socioeconomic instability is always linked to persistence low income and unemployment, which increases chances of involvement in criminal activities (Social problems, 2006). Lack of basic needs and environment where a child grows are the major contributions to behaviors hence fundamental in determining characters. How The Society influences Juvenile Delinquency In most cases, young people who are at risk of becoming delinquent often live in difficult circumstances. Young people always become delinquent because of various reasons such as family breakdown, parallel alcoholism, abusive conditions at homes, death of parents during armed conflicts, overcrowding, and overcrowding (Sullivan, 2016). All these harsh environments may change the attitude of a young individual into a different person. Society plays a huge role in modeling young people. However, what one comes across during his or her early stage of life is instrumental in shaping his life. DIXON Theoretical Perspective (Functionalism) The definition of a social problem is dependent on a sociological perspective. For instance, according to society's functionalism view, a society is a system of related parts whose interaction has consequences on survival (Social problems, 2006). If an activity promotes survival, then it is functional and if it does not then it is difunctional. Juvenile delinquency can be attributed to an imbalance of the interrelated parts of the system in the society which denies young people opportunities. Values and norms guide the cultural lag, and society should balance resources and enhance understanding of the young to reduce juvenile delinquency. Functionalism and Juvenile Delinquency According to sociologists, functionalist approaches are embedded in different elements of society, contributing to the development of different traits (Sullivan, 2016). Functionalism views deviance as the cornerstone and key component of the operations of society. In a broader perspective, social disorganizations theory, social control theory and strain theory provide a picture of the functionalist perspective on deviance existing in the society. How Juvenile Delinquency Came to Existence and How It Is Perpetuated Proponents of social disorganizations assert that people who grow up in impoverished areas are most likely to get into deviance or criminal activities compared to an individual from wealthy backgrounds. Wealthy people have good school system and always get involved in positive things in the society. People are not born criminals but become criminals with time due to social environment factors (Sullivan, 2016). Even though functionalism theory sounds like common sense, some people argue that it points out neighborhoods, opening doors for people's social issues such as disrupted families, low income, and drug use.
