Classmate 1 (Shawna) “Theory of Intelligence and Information Sharing My research question is: What were the experiences of nursing homes residents during the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic? Throughout the journal articles that I found while conducting my literature review research, I noticed that many were trying to find ways and strategies that research has shown to be effective in helping to prevent or limit the infections and deaths of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) in the nursing home environment. While the infected included both nursing home residents and staff, my focus was on the nursing homes residents and trying to understand their experiences. While reviewing the literature, I noticed that nursing homes that worked with other agencies including hospitals to try and use a multi-team approach in fighting the virus were able to decrease or prevent outbreaks of the virus at their nursing homes. This is where the Theory of Intelligence and Information Sharing came in. Nursing homes who were able to work with others, share information with other agencies, and use the information gathered to try and fight the virus found ways to help their residents survive the virus. According to Treglia and Park (2009) “the lack of coordination hinders the ability to prevent and respond to crime and terrorism” (p. 45). The authors explain that the theory of intelligence and information sharing provides a way to support the sharing of information to help prevent attacks against a nation and its people. This same theory can help to provide a way to understand how sharing information can help prevent injury to people including those who live in a nursing home. This theory helps to support the gap in the literature related to nursing homes and the residents who have been affected by the virus while living in the nursing home setting during the pandemic.” Classmate 2 (Jelenny) “ Foster parents are often not equipped to address the difficulties and challenges they face with their foster children. Research has identified the importance of providing foster children with a safe and secure environment. Guided by the theory of adoption and attachment, the study seeks to fill the gap identified in the literature. The theory of adoption and attachment developed by Pace and Zavattini (2011) proposes the necessity of improving attachment security for children that come into care from dysfunctional settings and without secure attachment patterns. It is likely that children who have never experienced a secure attachment have not developed an accurate internal working model necessary for healthy socioemotional development. These children are then unable to establish or even comprehend the idea of healthy social and interpersonal relationships upon placement into a secure home (Prentky et al., 2014). Instead, their thinking and subsequent behaviors that stem from their dysfunctional past experiences become disconcerting to well-meaning foster parents. “ Classmate 3 (Melodie) “Theory of counterfeit deviance is the term used in regard to sexual offenses that have been committed by offenders with intellectual and developmental disabilities due to lacking sexual knowledge. counterfeit deviance is a theory that was demonstrated through much of the literature identified regarding my topic. This theory supports the notion of many factors that contribute to sexual offending behaviors in individuals with IDD, such as inappropriate sexual preferences, impulsivity, and a preference for sexual violence. However, counterfeit deviance suggest that the lack of sexual knowledge may lead to these inappropriate preferences. The term counterfeit deviance “refers to behavior which is undoubtably deviant but may ne precipitated by factors such as lack of sexual knowledge, poor social and heterosocial skills, limited opportunities to establish sexual relationships, and sexual naivety rather than a preference or sexual drive towards inappropriate objects” (Michie, et al., 2006). The gap in the literature identified demonstrates the need for further identification of th factors that contribute to sexual offending within individuals with IDD, and the correlation of these factors to the need for additional treatment protocols and modifications for sexual offenders with IDD. The relationship between counterfeit deviance and the gap in the literature demonstrates the need for sexual education as a treatment modification within this population of offenders. Providing sexual education geared towards this population with the needed modification to meet the intellectual challenges and cognitive deficits of this population could create a more profound understanding of sexuality, relationships, intimacy, and appropriate sexual behaviors within this sub-set of offenders that could substantially lower recidivism rates, which are considerably higher within sexual offenders with IDD as compared to mainstream sexual offenders. “
