English 112: The Forbidden Topic List Not all topics are suitable for an English 112 research paper. Instead of academic research, some topics are primarily based upon individual morality, ethics, or religion. Such topics might be appropriate for a philosophy or religion class, but arguing them in this class proves problematic. Other topics are just too complex for a 4-6 page paper. Chances are, these topics cannot be argued fairly and comprehensively given the length of your essay. Lastly, other topics are so overdone that, quite frankly, I’m tired of reading about them. Here are some topics that I will not accept for the basis of your research paper: • • • • • • • • Abortion Assisted suicide The death penalty Evolution vs. Creationism The existence or non-existence of God Gay marriage Marijuana Legalization (or other illicit drug) Anything about Donald Trump If you have a topic that might raise similar objections like the ones I present, please clear your topic with me.
