Identify the logical connectives (Links to an external site.) which connect the two propositions together. The first proposition is "You are prohibited from purchasing tobacco products" and the second proposition is "you are less than 18 years old." The propositions are connected by the word IF.

Step 2: Rename the propositions in the following way:

Let q = "You are not allowed to purchase tobacco products"

       r = "You are less than 18 years old"

       The logical expression used in the example takes the form of

"if r then q"

To break it down further: r ("You are less then 18 years old") implies q ("You are not allowed to purchase tobacco products").
