According to Gendered Voices, Feminist Visions by Susan M. Shaw & Janet Lee, women have always been discriminated against by gender and color. Discriminations against the female gender have enabled the whites to gain power and colonize others. Despite efforts by women to champion for their rights, the United Nations World Conference against Racism did not publish how women are mistreated in reproductive rights policies (Shaw & Lee, 2009). The author says she accepted to marry because her husband asked, and she did not want to disappoint him. She expected to get romantic treatments like getting red flowers and candlelight. The husband started mistreating her by words which later graduated to being yelled at and beaten. Women are constructed as being inferior to males. I agree with Susan & Shaw that women are often looked down upon due to their gender and skin color. It is evident in marriage situations where the man looks at the woman as a lesser being who should only perform house duties. The society is living in denial that women have equal or even better capabilities than males. Should women be regarded as less superior to their male counterparts in marriage life? In the article Women Voices, Feminists Visions by Susan M. Shaw & Janet Lee, Shandra Woworuntu was a victim of sex trafficking. She was forced to give sex to men in a brothel. Also, her services were required at night by more men in different hotels. Woworuntu was unknowingly taken to the United States and became a victim of sexual harassment. The entire world thinks that sex trafficking occurs only in the USA, a view by Alicia Kinsman (Shaw & Lee, 2009). I agree with the book that the trafficking of human beings for sex and labor is real and affects many people. However, the various law enforcement agencies follow up on the whole trafficking issue and seek to bring to book all those involved. Private and public institutions have also volunteered to create awareness about human trafficking. What measures can be put in place to protect humans, especially females, from sexual and physical harassment? In the book Betrayed by the Angel, Debra Ann Davis has been a victim of sexual harassment several times. While she was in grade three, she says her desk mate would screw his sharp pencil into her arms several times daily. One day she reported the case to a teacher who did not take any action. Instead, she sent her back to sit and report the next time he stabs her. The author further states that while she was 25 years old, a stranger walked into her apartment and raped her (Davis). At 35, she also became a victim of rape from a guy in a coffee shop. The society today portrays the image of this book because males frequently harass females. The males see women as weak people who have no energy or ability to defend themselves in an attack. I agree with the author that women find themselves in a difficult situation when attacked. They do not know how to react or the reasons why they should react to the situation. Should women stand up against men to protect their bodies from exploitation? 2. Respond critically to the readings

You can respond and demonstrate critical thinking in a number of different ways. Here are some suggestions for how you might respond. You do not have to do all of them, and it would be good to select different options for different CTPs!

a. Explain whether you agree or disagree with arguments made.

b. Assess the point of view of the authors and their purposes in writing.

c. Explain what is intriguing or controversial about one or more reading.

d. Identify something you think is missing (or wrong?) with the argument, evidence, or conclusions presented.

e. Compare a reading to one or more of the other readings.

f. Include meaningful passages and comment on them.

g. Relate the reading(s) to your own experience or to current events in the world around us.

3. Write three (3) questions that can be asked to the class.

The questions required must also be “critical thinking” questions. In other words, don’t write questions that ask for clarification of statements or ideas (about a date, event, or person you don’t recognize, for example). The questions should be analytical questions that ask about conclusions/arguments, about the implications of the conclusions made, about the logic or evidence presented, etc.
