Certainly, the higher the dominance, the higher the chances of increasing its revenue (Peeters, 2019). The second strength is its strong leadership. Mark Zuckerberg has led the company so well. This has helped the company to rise above all the odds. He has helped it to build a strong brand with its logo being outstanding. Facebook’s brand is a competitive advantage over other companies (Pickering & Bickerdike, 2017). Under Zuckerberg's leadership, Facebook has been able to lead in innovation (Carmichael & MacEachen, 2017). Its research and development department are very active. It attracts the best talents in research. Facebook has been designed in a way that people can use it from any part of the world. In this regard, Facebook is globally present. This increases its demand. Facebook is facing numerous challenges (Sa & Parabhoi, 2017). These challenges constitute its weaknesses and threats. Some of its weaknesses have been in handling the user’s data. Some Facebook users have been using Facebook to get the personal data of other users (Carlson, 2018). They do this through hacking. This creates room for cybercrime. Secondly, Facebook has been the conduit of fake news. The company has no way of verifying the information that people FACEBOOK SWOT ANALYSIS 5 are sharing via it. In this regard, many people have been misled through Facebook. In this regard, people have started losing trust in the news spread through Facebook (Peeters, 2019). Another weakness its overreliance on advertisement as the source of revenue. There are many ways in which Facebook could be getting revenue part from social media advertising. Over the years, Facebook has been accused of some ethical violations. This has damaged its reputation. Nevertheless, Facebook has many opportunities (Gwena et al., 2018). Certainly, its audience is diverse. The audience has diverse needs. If the company can bring services targeting a specific audience, it will diversify its sources of revenue. Since Facebook’s customers increase every day, the company’s social media market becomes more diverse. In this regard, Facebook has a good chance to overcome competition from the new social media sites that may come up. Facebook faces some threats in equal measures. The threats come from many sides. Notably, they come from the safety regulations that are being developed all over the world (Gwena et al., 2018). Competition from the upcoming social media companies is also a threat to Facebook. Moreover, the government’s interference with the social media space in some countries limits the ability of Facebook to expand to some countries. Recommendations Advertising is Facebook’s main source of revenue. This limits Facebook’s revenue acquisition. To this end, I would recommend Facebook diversify. It can get into other paid services like ewallet, online dating, and news subscriptions (Carmichael & MacEachen, 2017). This will increase Facebook’s profitability. Ultimately, Facebook will grow. Also, Facebook can diversify by opening a Facebook marketplace. This is where people will buy and sell their products through the Facebook platform. This will bring more revenues to Facebook and hence boost its prospects (Gwena et al., 2018). FACEBOOK SWOT ANALYSIS 6 Secondly, Facebook should directly negotiate with the governments that have banned the app's operations in their countries. This will increase Facebook’s presence in the countries where it has had a minimal presence like China. Doing this will increase Facebook’s customer base and ultimately its revenue. Thirdly, Facebook should continue with its technological innovation. This is to come up with additional features (Sa & Parabhoi, 2017). Doing so will reduce the competition that Facebook is getting from other companies. Once Facebook adds new features, users will not migrate to other social media platforms (Medley-Rath, 2019).
