There is a lot of misinformation about nutrition. Oftentimes we receive only half the story. Read thoroughly the Highlight in Chapter 1. In order for nutrition information to be reliable, it must come from a reliable source. This activity will help you assess whether the information you found is accurate and reliable. Is the information valid or just a piece of the pie and one sided? Authors of nutrition information may or may not have the credentials to provide solid nutrition information. This activity will require you to assess the information based on scientific protocol from your textbook. 

Directions

  1. Select a nutrition topic of interest to you.
  2. Using the Internet or printed media, access a search engine and find an article on your topic. You may use a peer-reviewed journal or find a consumer/professional nutrition information site. The information must be no older than three years. 
  3. Read the article and post on the discussion board answers to the following:  
    1. Full citation of the nutrition article (title, author, publisher, date, etc) and a summary of the findings. 
    2. What are the author's credentials?
    3. Is scientific research being presented?  
      • If yes, describe the type of experimental design being used. 
      • If no, where are the findings coming from?
    4. Is this information reliable and valid?

The benefits incorporates little cholesterol thus reduced risk of blood pressure. As a result, there is low morbidity. These vegetarians have to have a good scheme for their dietary needs to avoid some nutrition related problems. The downside of consuming these type of diet is that subjects will be deprived off proteins that could be obtained in other foods. Proteins are essential for repairing worn out tissues as well as body building.

Consumers are advised to analyze the information they receive and confirm with different health personnel. Notably, ADA plays a big role in helping consumers identify the right channels for dietary plans. Consumers are advised to seek services from ADA members since they are entitled to offer consumers legitimate science-based info and enlighten them against misinformation (Nan et al., 2020).  Also, they can broadcast legit nutritional practices on media and give them heads up whenever some channels give misinformation on nutrition. Additionally, ADA members can link up with other health practitioners, policymakers, dietary supplement representatives, and educators to address the psychological, health, physiological, and economic impacts of nutrition-affiliated misinformation.
