The initial response should include at least one (1) scholarly source (not including the text) in your initial response

Nursing

The initial response should include at least one (1) scholarly source (not including the text) in your initial response. Scholarly sources are not necessarily required in peer posts in the first (4) modules but all new learning should be supported. Wiki pages, online Dictionary, and non-peer-reviewed websites are not considered scholarly. Rather, use peer-reviewed journal articles, government websites, and educational websites. The goal is to always carefully review the sources you are using. Keep sources to within 5 years of publication. Timely literature is very important in the nursing field.

Complete Module 4 Discussion Questions below as an initial discussion response (Discussion forum). Choose one (1) question from each of the two sections below for a total of two questions answered in your discussion response.

1. A key component to coordinated care is the interoperability of healthcare information systems. What are the top barriers to solving this problem? What are the possible solutions? Search the Internet for recent discussions on the topics

.2. How does current educational preparation need to change to address the skills necessary to perform workflow analysis and redesign clinical processes?

Interoperability to Healthcare Information Systems

Question 1

Grundstrom et al. (2018) argue that interoperability to healthcare information systems is made complex by barriers such as: trusting technical systems, workflow integration, policy challenges, and the usability of the systems. IT personnel develop more avenues of exploration and research about the healthcare systems and how to access information from these systems. The patients trust these technical systems way too much to make reservations to use the systems and go ahead to request more ways to access these healthcare services. The information from the avenues and research might not be too accurate; thus, the end-user must apply more effort before exchanging the information between the systems. Further, healthcare personnel prefer to have a work process that fits with the patients to monitor their health improvement since they feel like the interoperability to healthcare systems doesn’t meet the standards for their healthcare workflows. Policy challenges are also a barrier to interoperability. The healthcare personnel lack ways to develop medically oriented standards that would guide the vendors and suppliers to support the interoperability. The suppliers experience difficulties in exchanging the information with the healthcare personnel’s whereby the software used makes it hard to have techniques allowing feedback between the user and the supplier.

To deal with interoperability barriers, the healthcare workforce ought to know the implementation of interoperability in healthcare information systems. They should ensure that the technical systems function effectively to provide accurate information to the patients accessing information from these technical systems. Healthcare systems should come up with the necessary tools for data analytics and integration. They should also develop high standards that will act as guidelines to direct the healthcare personnel in supporting interoperability. The supplier should ensure that they are connected to a data operating system that preserves the data in its source format and delivers point of care insight within the healthcare systems. Moreover, they should ensure that the software used can allow them to get feedback from their users.

Question 2

The current educational preparation should improve the training of the healthcare management team whereby it provides a platform that guides the healthcare personnel on what skills they require to perform workflow analysis and redesign clinical processes. It should also involve the health management in questionnaires and interviews where they ask them questions based on the healthcare information. Notably, this will help them determine how well the management is equipped with healthcare information. It should train clinicians on the features and functionality of the health information systems (Jeyakumar e.t al., 2021). As a result, it will allow them to learn how to integrate data collection, processing, and reporting of the same data to improve health service effectiveness and efficiency.
