This chapter we are learning about the definition of "thinking" and various types of "intelligence"

Psychology

This chapter we are learning about the definition of "thinking" and various types of "intelligence". Most often we believe thinking is simply thoughts moving together in combination to form images or ideas. As you read the chapter you will find that "Thinking" is much more complex and has profound effects on personality and behavior. One's cognitive processes and perceptions effect ones beliefs, therefore ones actions. We first discussed the concept of critical thinking in the first page of Chapter 2 module. (Go back, read and watch video in this section if you have forgotten). This is the skill in which people develop the ability to be objective and evaluate events with logic rather than pure emotional reactions. In chapter 7 different types of thinking such as divergent thinking and convergent thinking are explored. Pay close attention to the differences and how this relates to intelligence and creativity.

The following video explores various types of Intelligence. You will see the 1997 interview of Harvard University Professor Howard Gardner, famous for developing theory of "Multiple Intelligences". He believes "intelligence goes far beyond traditional verbal and linguistic and logical and mathematical measurements".(edutpoia.org) Before watching the video read section 7.4 of the textbook to familiarize yourself with the 8 type of intelligence that Gardner references in this video (below point 2 on the web page) as he discusses intelligence in relation to student learning.
