Along with being specialists on the cultural differences of specific markets, most of the marketing representatives were fluent in at least two languages. Jackson had hired Lombardo because of his impressive track record as a manager. Jackson often played tennis with Lombardo's former boss, who described Lombardo with glowing praise and as a nice guy who got results. One of the best instances that demonstrates this point is when SooAe jumps work for a week. Given that she is still new to the job, she finds it overwhelming to perform the appraisal given to her by Tony, thus ends up being absent from work. This leadership style is also associated with longer periods taken to make a decision. For instance, given that most workers are new to this field and are not sure of the things they should be doing, they expect that at least their leader could give them a way forward. This does not turn out as expected, since they always find a way of reversing the question, thus they end up contemplating what to do before actually doing it. This contemplating period can prove costly as some decisions are required instantly for the continuation of activities in a particular section of the company.

Given that this leadership style gives the workers most of the free will to do what they want, this big responsibility might lead to poor decisions from unskilled employees. For instance, Juan feels overwhelmed by the responsibility to make every decision, thus likening the action to trying out your luck. In this sense, he thinks that he would be better off making some decisions by throwing darts at a dart board. This is an illustration that he is not sure anymore of what he is doing, thus any random decision could be better. Such decisions can harm the company as there is no accompanying evidence on their execution.

Comparison of Success between Tony’s Jobs

Tony had previously worked at a watch factory where he was the manager of the assembly line. In this work he turned around the working mentality of the employees and saw an increase in production. In this sense, he was seen as the ideal man to manage the marketing department of the Robotic Controls Division. However, this was not the case as the results did not reflect on the appraisal that Tony had received initially. This disparity could be explained based on the different teams he had to work with. In his previous job, Tony mainly worked with one group which had experience but lacked motivation. His work was thus easy in the sense that all he had to do was change the mentality of employees to the right track. This proved to work out since the production rate improved immensely.

In his current job, Tony could have seen less success due to lack of consideration of the diversity of the working group and different values and skill set of the employees. This environment was different from the former in that the former could be treated autonomously and produce great results, but this new working environment could not be treated the same. Tony was initially unaware that his new workplace was diverse in terms of ethnicity and experience. His previous methods worked mainly on the veterans of the Robotic Controls Division but failed to inspire the new workers. Veterans have work experience and can make appropriate decisions based on previous experiences, so they do not feel the weight of decision making. Despite the fact that the new bloods enjoyed this leadership style, this could not be said of them. At times, they feel that they cannot do it or make less convincing decisions. In this sense, some sectors that have highly experienced personnel give greater results while the opposite group does not perform widely.

In light of this information, it could be purported that Tony is a great leader in autonomous environments in that he does not perform well in diverse ones. If it happens that he is tasked with a group that has different skills, values, and culture, his autonomous and free method is likely to fail.

In light of this information, Tony could be advised to apply different leadership styles that are appropriate for the group in question. For instance, for newbies, he can apply a transformational style of leadership where he is tasked with drafting most of the ideas. In this sense, the employees will get a chance to learn and gain confidence in the future.
