Review of Personal Use of Technology

Technology has become a very vital part of human existence. We depend so much on technology that we can do nothing without its use (Bessen, 2017). I use technology a lot. Information technology has and is playing a very important role in my life. I spend too much time on the internet and social networking platforms. In 12 hours, I can use 8 hours just on internet technology. I use social network platforms to interact with people far away and communicate as if we were physically sided by side. Apart from socializing, I use social network platforms for personal growth. There are a lot of things that build me socially, financially, mentally, and academically. Most of my social media time is used to do social media jobs such as influencer marketing, participating in social media giveaways, sharing my videos for popularity gains, and pushing trending hashtags.

I also use internet technology to learn (Ratheeswari, 2018). Most of my studies and assignments require the internet. Internet is a knowledge hub that every student cannot go without tapping. For my studies and school work, I rely so much on the internet that I cannot imagine what would happen if it was not available. Most of the time I spend on the internet has been productive, and some of it counterproductive. Productivity comes when I have positive gains from the internet. When I get destructive knowledge from the internet, I count it as counterproductive. Internet technology remains a very powerful tool for learning and I will continue being over-dependent on it.

Internet technology use has some negative effects (Akram & Kumar, 2017). It is very addictive. It’s almost like a hard drug. I always want to be on the internet. The addiction is too much that it has badly affected my physical social interactions. I also realized that I leave too many digital footprints and cybercriminals could use them to spam and scam me. I’ve experienced cyberbullying. Although the negative effects might be adverse, the benefits outweigh them.
