Looking for a brief discussion on the following topics: 

• Expressionism vs SurrealismExpressionism and surrealism were the most popular cinematographic styles in Europe during the early years of film. In this forum you have to reflect on the main features of the two movements based on the mandatory movies of this week: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu and Un Chien Andalou (The Andalusian Dog). 
• CITIZEN KANE
  Citizen KaneCitizen Kane, the first film directed by Orson Welles, has been considered by a number of film critics the “best” movie of the history of cinema. This course always differentiates the thematic and the stylistic characteristics of the discussed genres and authors. You will have to reflect on both aspects in this movie.
• FRANKENSTEIN
  FrankensteinThe classic horror film Frankenstein, directed by James Whale in 1931, created an icon that is still recognizable nowadays. We associate the name to the monster, but actually, Frankenstein was the name of the scientist who created it. In this forum, you will have to discussed some contents of this movie that were not so obvious for the original audiences of the movie in the 1930s.
• CASABLANCA
  CasablancaCasablanca is one of the highlights in film history that this course deals with. Directed by Michael Curtiz in 1942, the movie analyzes, among other things, the complex relationships between France and Germany during World War II. The film was released when the outcomes of the conflict were still uncertain. 
• BRINGING UP BABY
  Bringing Up BabyHoward Hawks released Bringing Up Baby in 1938. It was not an immediate success. Now, it has become a cult classic. The film is the quintessence of a subgenre of the comedy: the Screwball.
• THE SEARCHERS
  The SearchersThe Western per excellence. Released in 1956, The Searchers is John Ford’s master piece. It has all the fundamental elements of the classic Western. This forum will allow you to reflect on those elements.
• THE BICYCLE THIEF
  The Bicycle ThiefThe Bicycle Thief is, no doubt, the least popular of the movies we discussed in this course. My students, in general, have a difficult time with it. It is the opposite of what you are used to watch on the multiple screens you have access to. The goal of this forum, one of its goals, is that you share and reflect on your experience.
