Week 5 Discussion
Importance of Methodology
I find that I agree with this whole heartedly. As an analytical person I use methods constantly. Additionally, with my focus being in programming I learned how methods can be modularized and implemented to make something more efficient. This can translate to real world skills and business practices. I believe that leads to organized and efficient work procedures which help streamline business productivity. From my experience, the importance of methodology can be lost on many employees, especially the executive team. I have often heard "Whatever works, just get it done", but often this includes subliminal messaging of "and do it as soon as possible". With this mentality I have found a lot more resistance when it comes to implementing a solid method that might take a bit more time because of a learning curve for the users.
Example
In my course project there are several repeated subtasks that are good examples. Anytime I built in an office I broke down the install the same way. This made sure that all important bases were focused on, and through standardization it would become a very quick process with practice.

Good evening Professor and class,
Having a good methodology in creating and leading integrative IT solutions is a must. Process methodologies provide mechanisms of injecting trust, reliability, and confidence in an organization and its business solutions. These methodologies provide structure to project activities by incorporating forms, guidelines, templates, checklists, and other management elements that can be used with multiple projects (Kerzner, 1).
Critical components of a good project management. methodology include providing strict adherence to practices, having periodic oversight and management by upper management, having formal change control procedures, and having formal tracking of risks, resources, costs and other project necessities. These characteristics help to make the project more acceptable by its customers, business leaders, team members, and other project stakeholders. By nurturing this process acceptance, the project stands a better chance of being properly executed and being better able to deliver its required deliverables.
The Kerzner statement on the importance of methodology helps to support the ideas that having a well thought out plan, easily followed policies, and executable procedures help to provide a solid structure to projects. It also gives projects and the businesses that perform the project tasks an element of confidence and security. To sum it up, having documented and strictly followed practices helps to let the project’s customers and stakeholders feel more confident that the project management activities are mature and well managed.
