The Reformation was not merely about changing the theology in people’s minds. These theological changes went hand-in-hand with the practices of the church and the practice of ministry. In this assignment you will more directly engage this embodied nature of the Reformation by translating its values into the contemporary practice of ministry. Over the semester you have been encouraged to develop a list of key themes that either unite the various strands of the Reformation or are central to particular traditions within in it. Your task here has two parts:

Part 1:

List 8-10 of those core values and give a two-sentence description of each. You might consider issues like the centrality of scripture, the priesthood of believers, etc. The majority of these will be developed in two preliminary assignments. You should accumulate all of them into a list here, but make sure to edit the list to include the most important and to state them in the best way.

Part 2:

Pick 4 of the core values you listed in Part 1 and explain how a contemporary ministry would embody those values in about 400 words each. That is, describe what kinds of practices ministers should follow, what types of ministries should be pursued, who should be involved, etc. Since all ministry is contextual, you will need to translate these ideas to fit the contemporary context.

Basic Requirements:

• Word count of approximately 2,000 words (including footnotes, but excluding bibliography).

• Follow Chicago/Turabian/SBL citation formatting.

• The key task is to detail how core values of the Reformation should influence the practice of contemporary ministry.

• Submit the essay in Word format (.doc or .docx).
