Ethical Decision Making for Leaders
Code of Ethics is an Ethical way to live and help societal cooperation, especially in business and work. A code of ethics includes a wide spectrum of behavior: Values, Integrity, Transparency, Principles, Managerial Support, Responsibilities and Consequences of Actions, and regulations to guide conduct among individuals. All these are key to creating a code of ethics that will be functional and be just to all. (Ghillyer, 2010). It is not unethical to have a rewarding system for ethical behavior, especially in the work environment and businesses. But the code of ethics should not only apply to employees but to employers too, and it is emphasized that managers and employers take the lead in being ethical since their behavior reflects on the employees. Workers follow the trend of their supervisors; thus, it is only right to be what employees should emulate.
A reward system for ethical behavior helps in creating a culture that promotes ethical conduct. The rewarding system should only be applicable in situations where the employees know of the code of ethics. Employers and managers should train and communicate the code of ethics to their employees, thus identifying conflicts of interest regarding its applicability (Chikeleze & Baehrend, 2017). This training creates awareness of the code and the consequences of being unethical. The code of ethics is especially important to leaders and managers when making decisions. It guides in decision-making, preventing them from acting on their self-interest and prompting them to be fair and just when dealing with matters that call for the use of the code of ethics and conduct (GreggU, 2020). Without the code of conduct, most societal interactions will be chaotic, if not all. It is the basic set of values and principles that guide an individual's actions.
