DQ 1:

For professional writing in nursing and health care, APA style is expected. It is also expected for the remainder of your graduate program and in doctoral programs for nursing. Discuss what you have learned, or how you have improved, by completing the "APA Writing Checklist" and from receiving feedback from your instructors. What aspects of APA do you still struggle with? In your response to peers, provide a resource from the Student Success Center (or in addition to something in the Student Success Center) or a suggestion for an area in which someone still struggles.

Nursing and Health Care outline

Question One

  1. The American psychological association (APA) writing style values straight forward writing style, streamlined citation style, consistency in their references, and easy referencing of others' research and ideas.
  2. I have also learned to arrange my research papers in an overall uniformity by adopting APA writing style, ensuring I consistently clarify my writing and my presentations within a related field of research.

Question Two

  1. Evidence-based practices are problem-solving approaches that cooperate with the available research, clinicians' expertise, and patient's preferences and values.
  2. Allocating time and money to the EBP process and creating an organizational environment that adopts EBP.

Question One

The American psychological association (APA) writing style values straight forward writing style, streamlined citation style, consistency in their references, and easy referencing of others' research and ideas. I have learned that, through APA writing, my research is highly clarified as well as my original ideas more especially when it comes to nursing programs (Abbott & Shaw, 2018). Most of the research papers include a straightforward structure that provides for title, body, references, and applicable appendixes such that anyone can easily read, understand and apply the research.  I have improved my research writing and giving adequate credit to others for their research, making it easy for a reader to track my references.

I have also learned to arrange my research papers in an overall uniformity by adopting APA writing style, ensuring I consistently clarify my writing and my presentations within a related field of research. Understanding APA writing skills help in implementing the writing style effectively, which contributes to the validity of the written expression. However, I still find myself having issues with an incorrect quotations. Sometimes when directly quoting from an original source, one needs to include the page number. However, many online sources have no page numbers where I have to overarch the headline plus paragraph number, which sometimes confuses me. Maintaining APA writing skills enhances the presentation and cohesion of the research paper. It also helps one understand what elements might be lacking from the research and needs to be fixed.

Question Two

Evidence-based practices are problem-solving approaches that cooperate with the available research, clinicians' expertise, and patient's preferences and values. Healthcare that utilizes the most current research improves patient's health and safety while reducing outcome costs and variations. There are strategies of cooperation that help improve EBP practices including, identifying the EBP champions who are policymakers, clinicians, consumers, and advocates who use the EBP in their communities to improve health outcomes. Members of the community are the ones who participate in facilitating EBP implementation by giving out their perspectives. Redefining nurse roles in EBP activities helps improve EBP implementation. Nurses play a critical role in transforming the health care system by creating a high-quality, and more accessible, value-driven environment for patients. Nurses help in uplifting outdated policies, regulations, and cultural barriers that can hinder EBP implementation.

Allocating time and money to the EBP process and creating an organizational environment that adopts EBP. Many EBP implementations don’t go well due to finances and a supportive environment. The current national pay-for-performance initiatives, provide reimbursement to hospitals and practitioners for implementing healthcare practices supported with evidence for both mandatory and voluntary, (Cook, Lyon, Locke, Waltz, & Powell, 2019). Practitioners must incorporate the tremendous increase in knowledge generation in their daily routines for EBP practices.  The environment also brings a continuous improvement in processes and outcomes of care for patients.
