Organizational change is a process that can be complex. Change efforts are not easily carried out but can be successful through the use of various resources and tools. As explored within the Interactive Lecture, change often starts with knowing what to change, continues through how to change, and then concludes with when to change.

It is important to remember that the same change processes that guide organizations can also be used in one’s personal life.

A systematic strategy to coping with the transition or transformation of an organization's goals, processes, or technologies is known as change management. Change management aims to put in place techniques for bringing about change, controlling it, and assisting people in adapting to it. Everyone's life is interrupted by change at some point. Change comes in various forms and can be implemented in a variety of methods. When it comes to organizational transformation, one of the most significant challenges is resistance from people. Several issues might contribute to resistance, the most common of which is fear. Individuals usually are concerned about the change and how it will influence their daily tasks; they may be worried about their job security and utility, and they may be concerned about the unknown factors that cannot be predicted. Ineffective management is another obstacle to organizational change. If the leadership is insufficient or incapable of bringing about effective change, things may revert to their previous state, and the improvements will not be as effective (Saima, 2017).

Change takes place over a long period. As changes continue to take place, one becomes accustomed to it. It is also important to note that the change can occur in an instance or once something dramatic or traumatic occurs in a person's life. I have accustomed to the thought that change is a bad thing, and any change in my life bothered me a great deal.  However, once I adjusted to the change, it would become relatively easy. One of the changes that made me quite uneasy was the transition from middle school to high school.  The main reason was that in middle school, life was straightforward. There was little to no homework most time. Additionally, assessments seemed relatively easy since most of us in that class used to have exemplary performance. The years I spent in middle school was quite exciting, but they did not prepare me for what was ahead in high school.

Therefore, was joined the high school, I thought that what I was accustomed to in middle school was what I would find in high school. More often than not, while in middle school, I had people say that life would be pretty difficult in high school, but in my mind, I was like that is what everyone used to say about middle school right before I joined. However, when I entered high school, I found out that life was quite different since I faced a world with significant changes since a lot of work needed to be done. This was the number one challenge since I had difficulty managing my time and putting lots of effort into my work. Other issues that negatively affected me while in high school included comparing myself to others and procrastinating. This harmed me since I would often compare myself to other people. This only changed for the better when I took a conscious decision to embrace change. I realized that the changes were not as bad as I thought. These changes played a huge role in my life since I could organize my work and time better. This played a huge role when it came to changing my attitude about life in general.

There is a very high likelihood that I would have ignored the changes that I was experiencing back then, albeit the challenges I was going through. However, when I look back, the changes taking place in my life have been quite significant in my life. They have only have had a positive impact on my life. These changes have contributed much to me reflecting on the daily problems and challenges that I face in my life. As a result, I have made significant steps in my cognitive growth, which has enabled me to make sense of those challenges and how I can find solutions to the said challenges. This has given me a new positive perspective in life, and it has made to embrace the changes constructively.  

Change Model

 The change model that describes best what I went through is Sterman's Systems Dynamics Theory. It is very easy to conclude from the research that the system dynamics method is an abstract modelling method since it generates a generic picture of a complex, more extensive system. This is made possible by ensuring that the features of a system that are considered insignificant such as the individual qualities of people, products, or events, are ignored. This means that the simulated models could be applied in the long run, and as a result, it improves when it comes to making sense of the systems that are seen to be complicated. The model is defined as a tool that can frame and understand the behaviors from a holistic operational perspective of systems. It shows how the systems are going to interact. The strategy is founded on linking the time and the components of the structures in the system (Sterman, 2002).

This means that the systems of the behavior must be well understood and determined. The benefits of the systems lie in how people understand and also, at the same time, anticipate the changes in systems that seem to be very complex in the beginning.  However, one of the significant challenges in this model is that one can only look into one situation at a time, albeit the notion that it can change the values in the many variables. Also, there is a very high possibility that one will bring in their assumptions and the main issue with this is that one might get a different picture from what should be expected. Also, it can become quite complex when very many variables are incorporated. Despite all this, I feel that it's the best model compared to the rest since it helped me understand the changes I was going through (Sterman, 2002).

Steps associated with the model

The first step is understanding the complexity of a process or system ascribed to constant shifting variables, potential resolution combinations, and the complexity of interactions between systems and humans is known as dynamic complexity. My case came about when I understood how the change resistance arose and how high levels of complexity in the systems affected how I behaved in high school. The second step was taking stock and the flows. It is important to note that a stock is a system or process that accumulates or depletes over time. The rate of change in the stock is called a flow. The stock and flow principles aid in the analysis of the behavior. The third step in the process lies in the applications of the essential tools in a bid to alter the system thinking reflexes, examine and compare assumptions about a system's functionality, acquire qualitative insight into a system's workings or the repercussions of choice, and identify dysfunctional components within a system. In my case, I had to sit back and reflect on the changes in my life during my high school period. This enabled me to change my worldview and see how this could help me adjust and embrace the changes that I was experiencing (Sterman et al., 2015).

Conclusion

I have learned two primary lessons about change and most specifically through this particular system. Period delays are significant because the time between decisions and system effects causes instability and increases the likelihood of systems swaying. Time delays should be viewed from opportunities to test, learn, and acquire information. Secondly, I learned the value of feedback. Through this, I realized that the consequences of our choices determine the scenario in which one finds themselves in the future. Therefore, understanding feedback is essential because it allows businesses to forecast and predict outcomes, reducing risk and making them less reactive. Consequently, I will ensure that I apply this in my life henceforth.
