Aspect of Utopia and Dystopian in the book An Early Encounter with Tomorrow

In the book An Early Encounter With tomorrow brings the aspect of a Utopian aspect in the fact that people in Chicago were determined to reform their Society where by the Chicagoans different aspects of Utopia. In this case, we will focus on the aspect of prophetic encounter with modernity. Being that the town was seen as raw, it attracted visitors such as the Europeans who would come to meet their demands in the town.  The growth and visitors who visited the town lead to a massive growth. It brought about growth in the town which brought about innovation. According to Lewis(1997), the town was only known for vigor and social instability and lack of cultural opportunities. People in the Chicago took advantage of the tourists who cane to visit the towns by crating business opportunities made the town grow and hence bringing about modernity.  According to Lewis, due to modernity, the town has come to be the largest market in the world and is well known for products such as corn, timber and pork. This has made the US country at large be known for the three products that it exports.

In the aspect of dystopian, we will focus on the “Curse Of Chicago’. The Chicagoans were more concerned about their atmosphere which affected their daily life. This compromised of bad odor from the river across the city, and air pollutions. Modernization had brought industrialization and urbanization brought air, noise and water pollution in the City. The pollution annoyed people who lived in the city and also affected people who owned real estates in rhe city since tenants would often complain about the condition of the environment surrounding them. New buildings would also look old because of the smoke settling on then.
