Teaps, who has Down’s Syndrome, works for Big Box Store, a big warehouse-type store located within the jurisdiction of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals

Business

Teaps, who has Down’s Syndrome, works for Big Box Store, a big warehouse-type store located within the jurisdiction of the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. For 15 years, Teaps has received high performance evaluations from Big Box. However, after 15 years, Big Box changed her work schedule from 12:00 pm – 4:00 p.m. to longer and later shifts that were randomly assigned by the company’s new software program. Because of her disability, Teaps was unable to adjust to these longer, later work hours. Teaps repeatedly asked Big Box to return her to her previous schedule, due to her disability, but was denied. Teaps was then frequently disciplined for absenteeism because she could not maintain the new schedule and, ultimately, was fired. Teaps files a complaint with the EEOC.
