Why does Significance of Race Pesist?

Race is a social construct and it was introduced in order to study the genetic and physical difference among people from various geographic locations. Later, Western countries, especially White people started to think of them as very superior and others as inferior. This led to the white people using their technological advancement to enslave others, especially the Africans and tried to establish that white skin color relates to intelligence. Although this was proved wrong some people still have the superiority complex that prevents them from working and living with others. It’s not genetics but one’s environment that would help one become a better person. Intelligence would depend on the amount of exposure one gets in terms of education and employment. White people, if not all hold on to race as a weapon to prove that they are superior. Race should only be used to study the differences and shouldn’t cause any differences among people.

Initially, race was invented to ensure white supremacy over other races in order to establish their rule all over the world. This would mean that people were branded as high and low social class depending on the skin color which led to the creation of race. Even intelligence was attributed to race thus, people from other races were forced to live under the whites. It helped the white Europeans who settled in different parts of the world to establish their dominance which led other people to an accumulated disadvantage while it helped the white race to have an accumulated advantage. It continued to influence the society by creating different social orders while putting the whites into an advantaged position in the society while leaving others to struggle in terms of education, employment, property, political power etc.

Racial Residential Segregation

Many sociological factors can affect racial residential segregation. Racial residential segregation remains a key problem in the U.S and this is because there are still people who are creating this issue. Even though housing discrimination is illegal, many may still feel uncomfortable when purchasing homes in a specific neighborhood. Lets say you are a Hispanic looking for a new home and you come across a really nice neighborhood. But some things are off and you know would not accustom you very well. You notice that plenty of neighbors around the house that you are looking into, have Trump signs posted in their windows, lawns, fields, etc. Now this would definitely become a turn off whereas you know many Trump supporters are not huge fans of the Hispanic community. Whenever purchasing a new home, you would like to look into the neighborhood's overall community and try to picture yourself living there, correct? But by people putting up signs like so, they are obviously trying to get a message out and their point clear. Even though housing discrimination is illegal, people still have a right to speak out for what they believe in, so by people putting our their candidate preferences for the open public to view, it may turn away some people from purchasing a home near by. This is an example of communication, values, language, etc, which are all sociological factors that can affect housing.
