Like Tina Turner asked "What's Love Got to Do With It".  Well, apparently love has much to do with it.

Love (and its many forms) are a common theme in music, movies and literature.   Many times love is portrayed as all encompassing, a one true great love or soul mate.  Love brings us happiness, heartache, joy and sorrow.  It has a role in relationships and sexual activity.

Think of a popular song, movie or book where love is the main theme.  Using the following questions as a guide, share your thoughts about the song, movie or book you selected.  How is this imagine of love portrayed? It is friend love? romantic love? family love? platonic love? loss of love?  unrequited love? obsessive love?  Is the idea of love illustrated realistic?  How did it make you feel?   Happy? sad?  Inadequate?  Do these portrayals raise your expectations about love that may predispose us for a letdown in real life?   Feel free to add your own questions.

A Star is Born (2018)

In this movie, it takes you on a journey through multiple stages of love, which I feel is a successful way to grab the viewer and hold them from beginning to end. In begins with sudden romantic love that seems to be bigger than the world itself. It then shows the growth of the couple, through personal struggle and heartache. You see more of the pain of the individual and the "honeymoon" phase seems to lessen. Finally, it shows the loss of love and the pain thats associated with that. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster as the different phases of the relationship unfold and you see the underlying issues of the characters. I often feel that movies, TV, and music tend to create expectations that aren't possible to withstand for an entire relationship. It often ends on a high note of a couple getting back together or realizing they were meant to be but we never see the status of the relationship 5 or 10 years down the line. I felt than in A Star is Born, it showed the path that a relationship often takes. Initially it's complete bliss and nothing could get into your way. Overtime, that phases out and there's a more "real" sense to the relationship where fights might occur or personal struggle may start to impact the couple. It shows us what it can be like to lose love or even yourself in the chaos of our everyday lives, and the where the love of someone should be in your daily priorities.
