Directions: Please follow the directions below to complete this homework assignment.

 

  1. We all have at least one crazy, funny, scary, interesting, or wild experience in our life that we tell as a story to friends or family. It can be about anything really. For this assignment, what I want you to do is to tell this story of yours to your fellow classmates.
  2. However, instead of just telling it like how you normally do, I want you to spice it up a bit and make it more creative. Following along with what we learned through our lecture on “Use of Language”, I want you to include THREE out of the FIVE stylistic devices and incorporate it somewhere in your story for creativity. (Simile/metaphor – count as one). 
  3. Your short story should be 1 page minimum, 2 pages maximum. Please double space your short story. 
  4. When you are writing your story, be mindful of your word economy, and non-inclusive language.
  5. Go to Laulima -> Forums
    1. Within Laulima Forums, click on: “HW # 7: Short Story”
    2. Click on “New topic”
    3. Title your topic: “First name, Title of Story.” For example: “Kayden Iwasaki,

Asian Greed”

    1. In the “Description box”, please submit your short story here.
    2. Press the “save” button once you are don
  1. Go back to the Forum page. By the due date, you should see the Forum page filled with all of your classmates stories.
  2. Respond to AT LEAST (3) of your classmates stories. To do this, follow the directions: 
    1. Click on a classmate’s story that you would like to read.
    2. Click on “View full description” to see your classmates story within the forum. 
    3. Click “Start a new conversation”
    4. Within the “Title”, type your name and then write Story response.
    5. In the message section, please include the following in your response:
      1. Write out their three stylistic devices and state which one it is (e., simile/metaphor, alliteration, parallelism, repetition, antithesis)
      2. Provide feedback on their use of language: Did they use gender-specific language? Gender neutral terms? Did they avoid using jargon? Were they mindful of their word economy? Did they use any unfamiliar words or not?
      3. Provide any comments regarding the story itself.

 

Grading Criteria

Wrote in grammatically correct and coherent sentences = 10 pts.

Included three stylistic devices = 6 pts.

Was between 1-2 pages in length = 8 pts.

Responded to three classmates = 6 pts.

TOTAL = 30 pts.
