Case Scenario I – Juan

Juan is a 15-year-old Latino. Both parents are present. His younger brothers and sister are not present in this first session. The parents bring Juan in for “threatening to kill himself”.  There is no indication of history, intent, plan or means. Juan denies the seriousness of his threat and says that he only said this to annoy his parents.

In consideration of the videos and information the author’s present in Chapters 4 and 5, respond to the following:

Liam a 28-year-old Chinese American man with a new wife and 3-month-old son. He presents with a gambling problem. He describes great shame for putting his young family in financial stress and dishonoring the values he was raised with. His parents reside with them and he fears his father’s scorn. He has been unsuccessful at trying to stop gambling on his own and comes to you for help.
