My regional manager, Alex Mereish, at PNC would be my leader.  wrote a little about him in one of my posts:

Give an example of ethical leadership.

My mind immediately went to my current regional manager as an example of an ethical leader. He is a very transparent, listens and has not only his best intentions but mine too. He leads by example and ensures we treat every customer with the same level of respect. We should make decisions that are in the best interests of our customers because they are the reason we have a job. We also must answer to our company’s shareholders for growing revenue. My manager ensures that we grow the bank’s revenue the right way through listening to what the customer wants and make recommendations based on that. When you build trust with clients you can deepen those relationships and build loyalty. Also, when you have ethical leadership you create a lasting relationship with your employees. Having a transparent relationship with customers and your team reduces attrition.

What are the characteristics of ethical leadership?

There are many characteristics of an ethical leader. An ethical leader acts with purpose, integrity and works towards the bigger picture of common good (Weiss, 2015, ch 2.1). An ethical leader has levels of moral maturity, and holds them self and others accountable. The are two styles of leadership from ethical leaders: stewardship and servant leadership. Weiss described stewardship as being “concerned with empowering followers to make decisions and gain control over their work. Servant leadership involves selflessly working with followers to achieve shared goals that improve collective, rather than individual, welfare” (Weiss,2015, ch 2.8).

And why do you think ethical leadership is important?

Ethical leadership can help lead a strong company where employees feel good about working for that company and creates loyal relationships with customers. A leader can instill purpose into a company that can flourish we customers and employees feel good about what they do and consume. When consumers know that a company has their best interest at heart, they are more likely to be loyal to that company even paying more for goods.
