Ford announced yesterday it intends to close its engine plant in Geelong and its assembly plant by October 2016. Ford's losses from the two plants have amounted to nearly $600 million in the last five years. Last year alone it lost about $140 million. Ford explained that rising costs have made it impossible to continue production. About 1,500 workers will lose their jobs.
