Virtual Communication Lab (VCL) Assignment

As a researcher, you will need to be able to clearly and accurately communicate to others information about the purpose, methods, analysis, and results of your research. In this course, you will practice these skills by writing parts of a typical research proposal/report as you progress through the modules.

The ERAU Worldwide Virtual Communication Lab (VCL) provides written, spoken, visual, and digital communication support for students through synchronous tutoring.

Once this term, you will be asked to make an appointment with a VCL tutor to work on one of the course assignments or attend a VCL workshop on a topic relevant to the course.

 Schedule a VCL Appointment

To enhance your writing skills, you will select one assignment to review with a VCL tutor.

First, determine which assignment you’d like to work on with a VCL tutor. Tutors can offer feedback on everything from brainstorming essay or presentation topics to polishing a nearly final draft.

You may choose any one (or more) of the following assignments.

• Module 2 Assignment: Annotated Bibliography
• Module 3 Assignment: Literature Draft Review
• Module 5 Assignment: Literature Review
• Module 8 Assignment: Data Analysis Report
• Module 9 Assignment: Research Methodology and Analysis Report

Second, check the VCL schedule (Links to an external site.) and determine which day of the week and time works best for you to attend a synchronous appointment with a tutor. When requesting an appointment, be sure to include information about the project you are working on.

You may schedule an appointment with the VCL anytime before the end of Module 9. However, it will be extremely important to schedule your appointment as soon as possible, even if your meeting occurs later in the term. This will ensure the VCL schedule can accommodate your appointment request. Waiting until the final module may mean that there are no available appointments left for you. After your VCL appointment, you will receive a post-session report summarizing your visit. To earn points for completing the Virtual Communication Lab Assignment, submit a copy of this session report along with a 1-paragraph reflection on your appointment and how you will use the feedback you received.

 Attend a VCL Workshop

First, check the Virtual Communication Lab website (Links to an external site.) for a list of upcoming workshop dates and topics. Determine which workshop will most benefit you in this class. After attending the workshop, you will receive an email confirming your participation. To earn points for completing the Virtual Communication Lab Assignment, submit a copy of this attendance certificate along with a 1-paragraph reflection on the workshop’s content and how you will use the information you learned in this or future classes.

Save your documents using a naming convention that includes your first and last name and the activity number (or description). Do not add punctuation or special characters.
