Discussions are an opportunity. This is where you share your ideas and challenge your peers respectfully. It's a chance to practice supporting your thoughts with examples and scholarly resources. Through our conversations, we'll be practicing historical writing and source analysis. Be sure to carefully read the prompt and view the rubric so that you can earn maximum points.
Civilization as we know it was not possible when humans were nomadic. A number of significant factors impacted how, when, and where these societies developed in various geographical areas.
Your Initial Post:
Begin by viewing the Module Presentation and continue by reading Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 in your textbook. Then, as you review the sources, consider the following questions in a post of at least 250 words:
Explore how geography impacts the development of societies. Choose one of the societies from Mesopotamia, Egypt, or Asia that we read about this week and discuss how geography impacted their development.
Your Response to Classmates:
This is a “post first” discussion forum. You must submit your initial post before you can view other students’ posts.
In response to your classmates, compare the different societies that have been discussed; what were some of the common features of these societies? Conversely, how do you explain their differences?
Your responses to your classmates should add new ideas, perspectives, or information to the discussion and should not simply express agreement.
This discussion addresses the following module outcomes:
MO2: Discuss the impact of geography on social development (CO1).
MO3: Compare and contrast the various early civilizations and the factors that impacted their development (CO1, CO2).
Your initial post is due by Thursday at 11:59 PM EST. Your responses to other posts are due by Sunday at 11:59 PM EST. This is a “post first” discussion forum. You must submit your initial post before you can view other students’ posts.
All discussions combined are worth 25% of your final course grade.
