This is because the people selected will be random but the recruiter will try to select the group of students who are from various backgrounds to carry out the research process so that every possible explanation or research can be done by them together.

So, the recruiter may select some people from the same background, one group of the other background and then of some other background and so on. Now, these groups of people are homogeneous within a group but heterogeneous when considered together.

Now, simple random sampling of people from each stratum (group) can be done such that the recruiter recruits 34 people.
