The sample is a subset of the population.

The sample data will not be a true representation of the population if:

• The Sample size is small as compared to the large population.
• Applying incorrect sampling method.
• Sample is taken from a different set than the population.
• Improper choice of the population.

If any of the criteria are fulfilled then the sample may not be representative of the population.
