The first coping strategy mentioned in the textbook is to take time out. It is done through simply accepting the feelings of the stress as it is without applying any negative connotation in it or trying to remove them. As an example of it, one can practice mindful meditation or exercise. A second coping strategy is to focus on the emotions so that one can be emotionally ready to look at the problems. The text discusses that it is important first to focus on the emotions and take time to process them. It may take one to vent out things to others. When the person is ready, then one can face the problems and try to solve them. A third coping strategy is called rethinking the problem. It can be done in three different ways. First is to reappraise the situation. It can be achieved by looking at the stressor in a different perspective; anger to sympathy, worry to determination and so forth. The second method is to look at the situation or the experience as a learning opportunity. Last rethinking method is to make oneself feel better by comparing with others with less fortune. Last coping strategy is to reach out to others in one’s social group for support.
