There are 2 parts to the assignment: a final paper and a final presentation

Statistics

There are 2 parts to the assignment: a final paper and a final presentation.

The presentation's requirements are written explicitly in the assignment page, but I want to note that you can do you presentation on anything statistics-focused. So for example, you can talk about your work in the course or you can talk about a statistical concept (again, as long as it meets the requirements). Some options are provided in the assignment page. You cannot present just on a healthcare concept. For example, doing a presentation on heart disease is not appropriate, but doing a presentation on the statistics you performed in Assignment 2 which were about heart disease is fine. As always, please send me your idea if you are concerned and I will let you know whether or not it works.

The paper should be a combination of Assignment 1 and Assignment 2. It of course should be written in paper format: full sentences and paragraphs, not bulleted or fragmented responses. I am looking for these main things:

  1. You correct whatever you need to correct in Assignment 1 and 2 content, based on my feedback. If you don't correct something, you will lose points for it again.
  2. You include all elements and required additions. Assignment 2, for example, requires 2 descriptive statistics, 1 hypothesis test, and 1 data visualization. You are also asked to do 1 additional,  new analysis for Assignment 3. Therefore, whether or not you use the original work, new work, or revised work, you must include 2 descriptive statistics, 1 hypothesis test, 1 data visualization, and 1 new analysis. The same is true for the requirements from Assignment 1 and any other new requirements listed for Assignment 3.
  3. You write a single cohesive paper. A lot of people answered Assignment 1 and 2 in bulleted lists or segmented by question. This final paper should read as one flowing assignment - a research paper - without breaks. It's okay to copy and paste your own words from Assignment 1 and 2 as long as they contribute to a written paper format and I didn't ask you for any corrections on that portion. Remember it is only okay to copy and paste from another written source unless there is explicit in-text citation, and you should never copy and paste numeric (formulas, computation, code) work from another source.

A lot of people did their first and second assignments on different topics. If this applies to you, you have a few options for your final paper:

  • Redo work in Assignment 1 to match your Assignment 2 topic
  • Redo work in Assignment 2 to match your Assignment 1 topic
  • Draw relationships and conclusions between Assignment 1 and 2 by focusing on the common thread: statistics! For example, if your literature review was about coronavirus and your dataset was focused on child health interventions, you can relate them by talking about the statistical methods. Was there anything in the articles you reviewed that affected your decisions for approaches used in your own work? Did you use any of the same techniques? Did your work teach you anything extra about what the researchers did (maybe you understand it more, or realized more about its effectiveness, or the opposite)? Similarly, did reading about the research work teach you anything about the work that you did? Etc. Remember that this is ultimately a statistics course and you can comment on the relationships between what you read, what you've done, and what you've learned. I just want to see you prove that you've learned something.
