Critical Thinking of Current Affairs

COLLAPSE

Select a major current national or international news event.  Apply your sociological imagination and your critical thinking skills, using the six rules of critical thinking described in Chapter 1, to explain the event.  Thoroughly discuss several reasons why this event is occurring (or had occurred).  In your response, be sure to demonstrate your ability to become a "critical consumer" of this information by looking beyond common sense and critiquing the information available to you.

The most relevant foreign issue people are concerned about now is terrorism that has most nations on their feet because they've had to spend more time, money, and energy to fight and counter-terrorism. Religion is one of the most significant explanations for terrorism because most of the world's terrorist attacks today are the result of people's failure to understand their own religious texts. Fundamentalists of almost every religion boast of their own faith as superior and therefore seek to discredit the other sects and people belong to them, lacking a sense of diversity and multiculturalism. The second reason for terrorism lies in the economic and military oppression of the other countries by the developed countries. Many who believe the developing countries ruled and robbed them seek to retaliate in the name of religion. That may be due to their own inadequacy to build a better life in their own country. Blaming others and causing harm gives them some form of gratification while refusing to realize that they are causing damage to thousands of innocent people. This is a good time for all countries to come together and fight the terrorists since average citizens live under constant fear that they may not be able to differentiate between an ordinary individual and a terrorist. Therefore, their day-to-day activities will be affected, and if there is a persistent danger their individual rights in the community will be restricted.
