English

In order to be prepared for Wednesday's Essay #2 In-Class Writing experience, you must outline a response to one of the following essay prompts:

      • Discuss the potential benefits a student could experience as a result of completing the Student Academic Plan for Completion.
      • Most Montgomery College community members, including students, faculty, and administrators, are unfamiliar with the Student Academic Plan for Completion, and it can be a challenging process to understand and use. What improvements could be made to enhance the SAPC's reach and user-friendliness to help more students at Montgomery College?
      • Identify the essential features of the SAPC process and explain how they work together to train students to self-advocate (or speak up for themselves and make intentional decisions) at Montgomery College.
      • Explore how the SAPC might impact students who feel a very limited connection to their college experience, viewing education as mandatory and not enlightening or essential for future success. How could completing this project help students like this reframe their perspective?

The outline that you prepare for the In-Class Essay must be treated with respect. You can compose single sentences, phrases, and words for each major category, but you cannot attempt to write the entire paper on the outline handout. I will review your outline before you are allowed to begin writing in class on Wednesday, and, if it abuses the pre-writing opportunity, I will have you scratch out content OR discard the outline entirely.

Some Worthwhile Reminders: Please use your course knowledge and the Student Academic Plan for Completion (or SAPC) experience to structure and develop the content of your essay. Remember, that printing and studying the Student Advisory Report, reviewing your program's Advising Worksheet, meeting with a Counselor or Advisor, and drafting your SAPC for Summer and/or Fall have all been useful exercises and act as evidence you can use in your In-Class Essay. Beyond this, you have studied summary writing, academic voice, various example strategies, and more in advance of this essay, so consider when and where these concepts are most useful to you. Finally, do not neglect that this In-Class Essay is an academic essay written for a composition class. You must use a recognizable essay structure, establish a purposeful thesis claim, develop logical and organized supporting paragraphs, and edit for clarity.

I wish you the best of luck on Wednesday!
