Obama's key message to politicians and businessmen of the world regarding SDG - 2030. (10) [5] Application questions on Sustainable Development Practice: Q.1.2.2 As a future educator, explain how you would inspire your learners to act sustainably in their daily lives. 2.1.3.3 Create a Corporate Social Responsibility idea that would support the development of an under-resourced school (Describe your idea. Aim to be creative. The idea should aim to address a social, environmental/ economic problem. It should not be a random "do-good' activity) 110)
Various small steps could be taken by all the learners to live more in tune with the environment and live a sustainable life.
The first step is to handle your waste, never throw non-degradable plastic and waste on road or in any place from where it might reach the environment without waste treatment plant or any recycle initiative. At the same time try to generate manure from the biodegradable waste at your house. If you invest a few hundred dollar, one can even establish a fully functional vermi compost plant in their backyard.
The second step is in terms of fuel reduction, the biggest issue in developed countries is using cars even for smaller distances. Use of cycle should be given priority. At home too, don't keep the heater and AC on in times when it will not be used.
Next one could take positive pledges, like plant a tree every birthday, or once every 6 months. Look after that tree till it grows tall. In India a man named Jadav Payeng created a 550 acre forest alone, one tree at a time.
A final step on individual level is to try to setup solar panels if possible, If you move for a new vehicle try to take an EV. Learn some craft and DIY to reuse some non-working appliances and reduce the electronic polution.
In short the attempt should be to reduce your consumption and try to live more and more in harmony with the nature.
1.3.3 - Create a corporate social responsibility idea, that would support the development of an under-resourced school.
The aim is to come up with a creative idea that could address issues spanning social, environmental and economic initiatives.
Example- Take an under-resourced school in Bihar, India
The first step is to address the social issue, the society is still highly patriarchal and education for girls is not prevalent for backward areas. So once the school starts, there needs to be enough awareness generated about the importance of girl education.
Next issue is many parents don't send kids to school, because then they won't be able to feed them. So a basic requirement will be to provide mid-day meal at the school. Again a serious project should not just provide some basic education to a few students but rather elevate the entire region from poverty.
A creative idea could be to use "Madhubani" the region is famous across the globe for their craft which they make using natural colors and wood, but sadly most of the dealers only pay them pennies for such precious efforts. To make the school self sustainable, the parents of all kids could be trained on Madhubani and asked to create their craft, selling it could generate revenue for them.
The school might lack in infrastructure, if the corporate invests some initial money. The building could be re-built using ancient construction methods employing the poor of the area and again giving them income. The schoo could be more than just a learning place. A complete ecosystem for learning basic subjects, vocational courses and decent space to build craft could be built. This would bring economic and social development for the region which will help the people, to come out of the vicious trap.
Finally once these things are taken care of, steps could be expanded to tree plantation. Teaching youngster about methods of waste and water management and coordinating the local government to setup such sources to improve in the domain.
The process will be tedious and will take effort, there might be stigma and early resentment by the rich and powerful but with dedication a complete change could be brought about for the youngsters giving them hope out of the village and into the world. At the same time empowering the female and poor of the region.
