Strauble-Dytisa is a manufacturer of refrigerator parts located in Quaretero, Mexico. They supply parts to manufacturers in the U. S. such as Maytag and Frigidaire. Orders for parts are received (by Sales Department) from manufacturers. Each order (see the order form on the next page) has an order#, order date, and a total order amount (you can ignore taxes, s/h etc_). The order includes also the part#’s that are required, the part names and quantity of the part. An order could include for e.g. #51500 “door Liner” qty 50 as seen on the form. Since different manufacturers can order the same part (c. g. door liner), the order “qtys” from different orders are combined into one “#needed” for each part. The Sales Department checks orders against an inventory ?le to see if parts are available. If the parts are available, an invoice is created and the parts are shipped to the manufacturer along with an invoice. A copy of the invoice is sent to accounting.

If the parts are not available, a copy of the order is sent to En gineerin g/production. The engineering department consults the design specs for the part from a catalog and compares it to a “die filc” -- a ?le that lists the dies (a die is a casting used to make a particular part) that are available. Assume one die per part. If a die is not available, a work order is prepared that includes the drawing as well as details about the die and sent to a nearby workshop. Dies, designated by the die# are stored in a shelf designated by a shelf#. A shelf will have multiple dies. The parts are then manufactured using the dies; these are inserted into hydraulic presses and “stamped” (do not model “presses” and “starnping”). As parts are manufactured, the company places the ?nished parts in a container (designated by the C#), and updates a tag on the container. The tag has the “C# “, the # ?nished, the #needed. Each type of part is placed in a separate container i.e. all door panels in one container, backplanes in another etc. When the required number of parts are manufactured, the tags are removed and the parts are packed and sent to Sales Department. Sales creates invoices and ships the parts along with a copy of the invoice. Another copy is sent to accounting. 1. What type of information system(s) should Strauble-Dytisa be considering to help support their operations? Identify a system that would implement the operations and justify it. (5 points) 2. Based on our textbook information, develop a requirement break down structure of the STRAUBLE-DYTISA information system development project (one-page) (15 points). State appropriate assumptions about the requirements, if necessary. 3.
