A typical public housing kitchen has dimensions of 1.7 m x 2 m x 2.8 m (high). A window type exhaust fan extracts 55 L/s of air from the kitchen. A recent on-site measurement shows that the CO concentration after a 30 mins cooking, using a town gas cooker, is 100 ppm. The initial and the outdoor CO concentrations are negligible and the fan is turned on for the entire cooking period. (1) Determine the rate of CO production in the kitchen. (9 Marks) (ii) If the rate of CO production has been reduced to 1/5 of the result found in (i), comment on whether the steady state CO concentration can fulfil the IAQ objective for CO, i.e. 20,000 pg/m .
