Write a professional, student biography for yourself.  A professional biography is a brief explanation of your professional or working life. It includes information about you that a prospective client or employer might want to know before hiring you. Even as a college student, with little work experience, you can write a professional biography that will highlight your best skills and experiences and provide a glimpse into your professional capabilities.
 

Write your biography in the third person, as if you were writing about someone else, and use formal language and correct grammar.  For example, you should write “Jane Doe served as the vice president of the Student Government Association at Chandler-Gilbert Community College” instead of “I served as the vice president of the SGA at CGCC.”  Do not assume that your reader will immediately recognize acronyms or initials that are familiar to you, such as PTK (Phi Theta Kappa).

You should include as much of the following that is applicable and can add additional information if you want.

1. Name and nickname (if applicable)
2. Year in school
3. Choose 3 words you would use to describe yourself. Write 1–3 sentences of example or explanation.
4. What subject do you consider to be your strongest and why?
5. What are your special interests?
   1. Give an overview of any interests that might relate to career goals or employment, such as working with youth or children, and briefly touch on other interests.  Do not give too much detail about your hobbies; in a professional setting, sometimes less is more.
6. List positions of leadership you have held either at school or outside of school.
7. List all awards and honors that you have received in order of their importance to you.
8. Are you currently employed (work study, college program, or outside of school)? If so, where do you work and how long have you worked there?
9. List non-academic activities you participated in at school during the last two years and how long you have participated in each.
10. List activities in which you participate out of school and how many years you have participated in each.
11. Add a profile picture of yourself in Canvas (required).  Click here, for i (Links to an external site.)ns (Links to an external site.)tructions to upload your profile photo to Canvas (Links to an external site.), including images and explanations.  The following are simplified steps to follow:
    1. Click on Settings (Upper right hand corner on the orange bar)
    2. Click on Edit Settings
    3. Click on picture box next to your name
    4. Select Image and Upload
    5. Save Options

Make sure that you respond to at least 2 other learner's responses. Please use Salutation when replying to other postings (example: Hi Nancy). Remember to use netiquette.

All Discussion Board Requirements:

• Post a minimum of 3 posts per discussion, 1 initial response and 2 replies to a classmate
• The first post should be made at least 2 days before the due date
• The first post should be at least 100 words
• Reply posts should be at least 25 words
• Spell check, grammar check, proof read, use Netiquette
• Include salutation to start replies (ie: "Hello John")
• Use quotation marks around direct quotes and cite all resources
• No late discussions are graded
