2)Why is it important to learn how to conduct valid historical research for business?

3)GBBA was a very creative advertising firm, but it was in trouble. The business had been very profitable in the past, but recently competition from other advertising agencies had reduced business and profits. The founder, Gibson Bart Bangle, hired John Wrench to turn the business around. John was well known as a “tough” manager. At the first meeting with his senior managers, John began the meeting by shouting, “You are all idiots. You have driven a perfectly good business into the ground. Now I’m going to turn it around.” John was quick to set out new routines and rules and was very decisive. He expected his orders to be obeyed immediately. He fired two senior managers who did not respond quickly enough to please him. Two other managers left the business soon after. John hired new people to replace them after interviewing them for several hours. John had clear ideas on how to turn things around, and his methods did increase profits considerably. Everyone was working much harder and longer. No one dared grumble for fear of what John might say. What leadership style was John applying? 3)

If we go through the question, we have been asked about the leadership style of John Wrench.

According to my observation, John is applying ' Autocratic Leadership Style '?????. To understand the reason, we must first understand what is Autocratic style and what are it's features.

Autocratic Leadership Style: It is also known as directive or authoritative style of leadership. The entire authority rests in the hands of one leader. He decides all rules and policies. He commands subordinates and expects complete obedience from them. The leader possess total authority and is wholly responsible for the execution of task.

Features of Autocratic Style:

1) The leader holds all the authority and decision-making power.

2) Top-down communication and one-way.

3) Formal communication system of command and control.

4) Very little delegation exists.

5) Mostly used when workers are unskilled, not trusted and their ideas are not valued.

The features which we have mentioned above clearly depicts that John's way of leadership is autocratic as we can see he is strict. He made new rules and policies which he demanded to be followed by subordinates. He has all the decision-making powers. He fired and hired employees according to his will. The subordinates have no say in decision-making and consultation.

Comparison of John's leadership style with others are as follows:

If I would be working for John, I would have following feedback:

1) No role in decision-making process would demotivate me.

2) Working for long hours would be a kind of exploitation.

3) Strictly following orders will dampen my creativity and thus less involvement in work.

4) This way of working would certainly frustrate me.

5) Just following the orders and no say in decision-making would not let me develop leadership skills.

I will advice John to adopt a little liniency in his leadership and involve employees a little in decision-making process. This will increase their motivation and eventually productivity.

His leadership style is not appropriate for the long term as eventually everyone will get frustrated and less motivated to work.

His leadership style is not appropriate because autocratic style is used for unskilled workers which is not the case here. He should adopt a leadership style in which involvement of subordinates is there. This will motivate them and increase productivity.
