Real life is not always tidy, and this fact certainly holds true in public communications. Audiences have multiple characteristics that can influence how a message should be delivered. As a criminal justice professional, you must consider how audience characteristics might influence how a message should be delivered. You should then consider challenges to effectively communicating a message to that audience.

  • Reflect on your video presentation from Week 4.
  • Explain how you would revise your approach if, as the chief of police, you were presenting to your fellow police officers instead of to the community. In your explanation, be sure not to change the content of your original message.

In a 1- to 2-page paper, explain how you might revise your approach in the presentation based on the characteristics of the new audience (police officers enforcing the policy rather than communicating information to community members) and why. Be sure to indicate who your audience members previously were. Be sure not to change the content of the message.

Criminal Justice Policy is the method through which the presence of crime in the area is analyzed and dealt with and it also outlines the ways to handle the offenders. Crimes are controlled through such policies and there are several steps in the development of policies which include the identification of the problem, formation of the demands, the formation of agenda, adoption of the policy then implementation and evaluation of policy (Moore & Braga, 2004). Throughout the formation and implementation of the policy, the common people will be included in the whole process because they are the people who have been affected by the crimes in the past. I, as a Police Chief, will conduct town meetings with the municipal members and local representatives of the government during every necessary step. In the identification of problems, their feedback and input will be accepted and after that, during the formation of agenda and policy demands, they will be in the loophole to keep the people of the town aware of the problems they are dealing with. After the formation of the policy, I will conduct meetings with the community members to make them aware of the problems in simple words and the solution according to the police departments and the local members of the governments. In this way, the implementation of the policy will be a simple and easy process. Town members will be given a presentation brief with visual aids to provide those statistics and the policy agenda along with the expected results. Their feedback and cooperation will be welcomed. After a specific time, the results of the policy will be evaluated and community members will be given the honest pictures of results and in this way, they will be able to trust the police department and they will cooperate on their own as well. For rural communities, it is better to inculcate their traditional methods and traditional heads in the policy formation to blend in and for communication, easy and simple words preferably in the local language will be used to make them understand the reasons behind the policy formation, the real statistics, and the points which are important for mitigating the harmful violent incidents. After their participation and gaining their trust, they will be given a brief of the importance of such policy and the initial results of policy implementation will help to keep them on board. In this way, successful policy implementation can be committed in a rural setting.
