1) Is the sky falling? Your manager, Mr. Roberts, stopped by your desk on his way out of the office at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. He handed you three letters he had signed and asked you to prepare envelopes and place the letters in the mail today. "Don't call me unless the sky is falling," he said on his way out the door. "I promised to spend some uninterrupted time with my wife and son this weekend." You prepared the envelopes and are looking over the letters when you notice what you think is a huge error. An amount in one of the letters is $1,000,500. You are pretty sure the amount should be $10,500.00. What do you think Mr. Roberts means by "unless the sky is falling"? Should you mail the letter even though you think the amount is wrong? How should you handle this situation?

2) Recently you attended a seminar on improving writing skills. The speaker arrived late and seemed flustered and disorganized. You wondered whether his presentation would also be disorganized. At first the room was quite comfortable. However, as the room filled with people, it became uncomfortably warm. When the speaker turned down the lights to show his presentation, you had to fight to stay awake. Maybe you should not have had such a large lunch. The speaker faced the screen at the front of the room as he discussed points on the slides. The portable microphone he was wearing occasionally omitted a shrill squeak as he moved about the front of the room. You learned a couple of new ideas for improving your writing, but on the whole, the seminar was not a very enjoyable experience. What are the internal communication barriers in this scenario?
