From this week's readings, you learned that about 11% of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with food come from transportation. That is a small part of the carbon footprint from food. Meanwhile, reducing "food miles" has been a popular idea with consumers who want to reduce the environmental impacts of their food consumption.
A complete and meaningful response to the discussion prompt will earn the required points. You may instead choose to respond to another student's original response to the prompt, which will also count as points if it is complete and meaningful, for example, raises additional support for an argument, respectfully challenges a position, or raises meaningful questions.
In each Discussion forum, if you both respond to the original prompt and engage in a dialog with a classmate in an exchange of more than 2 posts (your original post or a classmate's), you can earn an additional one point in that forum, gaining an additional point on the Discussion.
As the food mile means the distance the food is transported from the source of production to the consumer. Those can be done by calculating distance, the average weight. So, the benefit of local production would be using less food mile for food transportation which is the main part, about 11%, in the food system that creates the greenhouse gas. Less food miles lead to less emission. And based on the information, I would say that the food mile really matters for global warming because it is one of the large parts that create greenhouse gas. And if my friends ask me how to reduce the carbon foodprint, I would say that there are many ways you can do so. First, east locally because it would use less food mile which leads to less carbon creation. Second, support the food that associated with the food that uses the clean energy in their processing and production. Those are just some examples that I can think of.
