The BLOCK COMPARISON ORGANIZATION style of a comparison/contrast essay has been formatted for you below. In this type of essay, you discuss three points about Topic A (person, place, thing) in your first body paragraph. Then you discuss the same three points about Topic B (person, place or concept) in Body Paragraph #2. Determine your paragraph order depending on the point you wish to make at the end of your essay.

This format is ideal for comparing or contrasting several of the same points about two persons, places or concepts. This format will enable you to draw a clear distinction between the two and make an insightful comment about what you perceive are their similarities and differences. Remember to use the same discussion points concerning Topic A with Topic B.

Not required, but a “Hook” -

Can capture the reader’s imagination and motivate him or her to read further. It is usually the first sentence in your introductory paragraph.

Hook: “Is budgeting is the right move in the 21st century?”

 

The Introductory Paragraph

This introductory paragraph should include points that stay on message and develop your thesis/core idea. The strategies generally used in an introductory paragraph are general ideas to specific ones (General to Specific) which funnel down to your thesis statement. These general to specific ideas are usually draw from the content of your essay. You are essentially giving us a preview of what is to come. Also, you may use historical material (Facts, Historical or Research data) to reinforce your thesis statement and the merit of this essay. The final method for fashioning an introductory paragraph is a personal anecdote, either your own or someone else’s.

Each of the above techniques has to set up your thesis statement and motivate readers to venture on to determine the point of the essay.

First Body Paragraph: When it comes to cash, everyone is first, because in today’s world we cannot survive without cash, in other words we cannot survive without money but there are many ways in which we can use this money.   Item of Comparison/Contrast #1: The key benefit of handling cash is that an individual is limited to how much to spend For instance, when one doesn’t have enough cash in their wallet they will not spend in making impulse purchase. By so doing impulse buying is completely eradicated. Such people resort to making a budget based on the cash they have at hand. On the other hand, the credit card users are likely to spend more because they just need to swipe away.     Item of Comparison/contrast #2: Also, handling cash implies that one does not need to pay bills monthly. However for a credit card user, you have to pay monthly bills and whenever one forgets to pay one of the listed bills then they have to pay penalties for late payments.     Item of Comparison/Contrast #3: Another benefit of handling cash is that not all companies tend accepts credit cards. In essence, some companies only accept cash for payments.

 

A brief summation of Body Paragraph #1 that helps transition into Body Paragraph #2. This is the last sentence in Body Paragraph #1.

Brief Summation of Body Paragraph #1: Overall cash has many advantages using cash is more easy, you have the money when you need it and you don’t need to worry about paying bills monthly but as I mentioned before it is up to the person to decide what they choose and how to spend their money.

Second Body Paragraph: Credit cards have their benefits just like cash. Like cash, credit card is another way to spend money.     Item of Comparison/Contrast #1: when an individual pays his or her credit card bill on time they tend to improve their credit score. Also, with a good credit score one has a lot of benefits. Such benefits include saving on car insurance, add to qualification on job applications, one can lease a house effectively and gain access to cheaper utility service. With cash, one cannot get all these benefits.     Item of Comparison/Contrast #2: likewise, when an individual uses rewards credit cards, they earn cash back and other incentives. Conversely, using cash one cannot have such benefits.       Item of Comparison/Contrast #3: finally, the key benefit of having a credit card is that whenever one loses his or her credit card or when it is stolen they can easily track it and have it blocked. The move ensures that the card is not used to withdraw or make purchases elsewhere. however, when cash is stolen then it is gone

 

A brief summation of the second body paragraph and transition into your conclusion. This is the last sentence in Body Paragraph #2.

Brief Summation: Credit cards also have merits just like cash. Credit cards are easy to carry around and one can spend as much money as they wish without limits. In essence, one gets a lot of benefits having a fat and good credit score.

 

 

The Summary and first or third person commentary

Summaries traditionally use a restatement of the thesis statement or summary (inclusion of topic sentences to summarize the points you discussed). Both of these techniques should be followed by an opinion (person is optional) which can be logically drawn.

Your comparison/contrast essay is now ready for its final point (There are far more similarities or differences between points A and B or vice versa; therefore, I have reached this conclusion and offer this opinion or sage advice).

Conclusion: In a nutshell, it is important to affirm that everything in has its own merits and demerits. It is up to the decision-maker to decide on what is right and wrong, especially on how they want to handles and spend their money. Indeed, budgeting is always the right move.
