Since we are talking about personality this week, consider the following questions using your own life and experiences.

  • Do you believe that an individual will “project” his personality onto ambiguous stimuli (like with the Rorschach Inkblot Method)? Why or why not?
  • Have you ever noticed a time in your life in which your personality shaped how you viewed an ambiguous situation? What happened?

Ambiguous stimuli are demonstrated on projective personality tests. The most commonly used projective personality test is Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2. Projective personality tests demonstrate open-ended answers or answers that prompt description. Projective personality tests tell you about yourself and personality through images or objects. I believe that an individual can possibly project his personality onto stimuli. The person can project their personality by having prior knowledge about the test. For example, on the Rorschach Inkblot Method, the individual may already have prior knowledge about which image prompts which personality description. In other words, the patient or participant may intentionally choose a certain image because they think that is their personality. I believe this because it is what’s natural for people to do.

There has been many times in my life when my personality shaped how I viewed a situation. There was a recent situation with a friend of mine. For awhile we were great friends but then something took a turn and we had to stop being friends. Some people just aren't the best to have around. I found this person taking what I have from me. It was something extremely unexpected and humiliating. I found out that this person lied to me and this person wasted my time. I am a very a emotional person and I am still working on getting over pouring a part of myself into someone else. As a person, I adore and love my friends and I was very hurt over something I could never get back.
