There are three tasks for the PY7163 Portfolio. They test different aspects of the design, analysis and reporting of research. Task One In this task you are required to develop an ethical analysis for the situation below. In this you need to: 1. Assess the risks with reference to all four pillars of the BPS Code of Ethics 2. Put in place methods of mitigating the risks You should aim to write around 500 words A) Quantitative research You are an experimental researcher investigating the interaction between gender and mathematics anxiety in children aged 5 to 9. You design an experiment which takes the following form: 1. Children are exposed to a mathematics task which is either easy or hard. Those that receive the hard task are told it is easy and those which receive the easy task are told it is hard. This aims to induce their feelings of anxiety. 2. There are therefore four experimental groups: male/high anxiety, male/low anxiety, female/high anxiety, female/low anxiety. 3. The children are then given a set of medium maths problems to solve. 4. The dependent variable is the numbers of correct maths problems in the second task. Task Two Survey research In this task, you will need to demonstrate the skills required to select the correct instrument for a psychological construct (FEAR). There are three parts to this task: 1. Describe the psychological construct you are measuring [fear] (250 - 500 words). You should reference at least 2 different peer reviewed research papers in this section. 2. Find a psychometric scale which measures this construct and describe why it is the correct scale to use (no more than 250 words). 3. Imagine that you conducted the research. Write the methods section of this piece of work. Make sure you follow the guidelines for reporting of scales work on Weblearn (no more than 500 words). SEE KEY THINGS TO INCLUDE PAPER Task Three 1.
