Writing

DEUTERONOMY

Each student will select a biblical book, read it in its entirety, and research its historical background, literary structure, major themes, place in the biblical storyline, and theological message. Students should cite at least 4 non-internet, academic sources beyond the textbooks (books, journal articles, etc.). The paper should be 6-10 pages long (Times New Roman, 12-point font with 1” margins all around) and should include a bibliography (which is not counted toward the page total).

Each paper should contain the following sections:

    1. Introductory Issues (who wrote it? when was it written? what is the occasion/background of it's writing? what is it's primary purpose/why was it written? what is the main point?)
    2. Literary structure (two-level outline that details major sections of the book and then a 1 paragraph summary)
    3. Place in the storyline of the Bible (use Roberts here)
    4. Major themes and theological message
    5. Personal reflection and Application on the book

    6. Bibliography
