Purpose To develop and reflect on your relationship with land as the foundation of your work in outdoor learning environments To gain understanding of the colonial and treaty history of the land you are on and Demonstrate how your understanding of that history will inform your practice going forward Relevant Course Learning Requirements 2 Instructions Develop a personal land acknowledgment (1 paragraph), being sure to include: Whose traditional territory you are on Reference to any enduring/current presence and contributions of Indigenous community/ies What treaties govern the area and a brief statement of how they govern the area (i.e. any key agreements/responsibilities) Personal connection and gratitude to/for the land you are on Specific commitments to building better (mutually beneficial) relationships including but not limited to specific TRC Calls to Action You can submit a written land acknowledgment, or a recording of yourself sharing it (audio or video - your preference). Then, develop a 4-5 page (double spaced) supporting document: Elaborating on the history of the land you are on Identifying the limits of Land Acknowledgments and what your next steps will be in building reciprocal relationship with Indigenous communities/community members Reflecting on what was difficult and/or unsettling (or positive!) about the process of developing a Personal Land Acknowledgment. Reflecting on how this process will affect your practice/how they will use/relate with the Land Acknowledgment with children, families, and in community Be sure to include a Bibliography in APA format.
