Your Task

Your task is to write a 3000-word proposal, drawing on the work you have done through the activities carried out during the module, which will serve as a Research Project Proposal for your chosen project. Your proposal should explore the research description, research outcomes, specific resources, constraints, and any social, ethical, professional and legal considerations. As part of this you will need to include your proposed research questions, design and methods, evidence of initial literature search and research outline, and approach to artefact development / practical work.

Student Information

Throughout the module you have been undertaking a series of small formative exercises in preparation for writing your research proposal. This assessment will use information collected during these exercises to produce a detailed proposal for your chosen project, with a guideline length of 3000 (+/- 10%) words.

Your proposal should include the following sections:

1.         Introduction

Your introduction should include a summary of the main points that you will discuss in your report. Your introduction should outline the proposed research topic and project selected.

Your introduction should be approximately 200 words in length.

2.         Project Description

This section should cover the context of the problem to be solved by your research project, providing justification for it in terms of its proposed impact and who will benefit from it. If your project is a work-based or client-supported project, then you should include details of how your project will address their requirements to solve a particular problem. You should also outline the proposed practical deliverables of the project

This section should be approximately 300 words.

3.         Preliminary Literature Review

In this section you should provide an initial review of appropriate literature that will contextualise your research. This will form the starting point for your full literature review and will be an early version of a potential research chapter, demonstrating that you are starting to formulate and organise your thoughts on the literature that you are reading and that will support your future work to answer you research question(s) and inform your project deliverables.

This section should be approximately 1200 words.

4.         Research Questions, Design and Methodology

In this section you should cover the proposed research aim, outcomes, questions, and hypothesis. All projects are individual, so this should be customised according to your chosen research project. For example, for your chosen project you may have research questions to address but not a specific hypothesis to prove/disprove.

In this section you should explain, with justification, your proposed research design and outline the methodology you intend to use to address the research question(s).

This section should be approximately 500 words.

5.         Resources and Constraints

In this section you should give commentary on the specific resources required for the completion of your research project and proposed deliverables. You should include here any hardware, software requirements, datasets and access you may require to other resources such as participants.

You should also state what might hinder you from completing the proposed research successfully and what shall be done to minimise the impact.

This section should be approximately 300 words.

6.         Social, Ethical, Professional and Legal Considerations

In this section you should discuss any social, ethical, professional and legal issues associated with the project.

This section should be approximately 500 words.

7.         References

These should be to Harvard standards (not included in word count but should be between 6-12 references).

Submission Guidelines
